Who we are

This policy covers two separate things: the reeDminder app, and the reedminder.com website. They work very differently, so each section below says which one it is about.

“We” are Chris Ostmo — professional software developer and hobbyist woodwind musician. reeDminder and reedminder.com are projects of APP(ideas), a long-time side project. You can find out more at https://appideas.com/portfolio/

The reeDminder mobile app

The app collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no sync and no analytics, and reeDminder never transmits anything you record. Everything you enter stays in a database on your device.

The app can open a link you tap — our website, this privacy policy, or our social media — in your browser. That is the only network activity it causes, and it happens only when you ask for it.

Backing up is something you do, not something the app does. Exporting writes a single file and hands it to your device’s share sheet, and where it goes from there is entirely your choice. We never receive it and we keep no copy.

Nothing else on this page applies to the app. Everything below is about the website.

The website

reedminder.com is an ordinary website. There is nothing to sign up for, no account to create and no way to log in — the only login is the one we use to edit the site. You cannot upload anything, and there is nowhere on the site to post publicly.

The two things that do collect something are the visitor statistics described below and the contact form, and neither of them needs you to identify yourself.

Statistics and cookies

We use visitor-statistics services on the website — Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats. They tell us roughly how many people visit, which pages they read and which links they follow — including whether someone tapped through to the App Store. We use this to decide what to write next. We do not use it to build a profile of you, we do not sell it, and we do not connect it to anything in the app.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to recognise a repeat visit. Those are the only cookies the site sets. If you block them, everything on the site still works.

Google’s own handling of this data is governed by Google’s privacy policy. Jetpack Stats is run by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, and is governed by theirs.

The contact form

The contact form asks for your name, your email address and your message, and it stores them on the website so we can read and reply. We keep messages until they are dealt with and then delete them. We do not add you to a mailing list — there isn’t one.

The form is protected from spam by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks whether you are a person. reCAPTCHA collects information about your browser and how you interact with the page in order to make that judgement, and that goes to Google under Google’s privacy policy. It runs only on the contact page.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content — a video, an image, a post from elsewhere. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly: it can set cookies, collect data about you and monitor how you interact with it, and if you are logged in to that site it can connect that activity to your account there.

Who we share your data with

Nobody. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties.

The exceptions are the services named above, and they are named because they are unavoidable rather than hidden: Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats receive the visitor statistics, and Google reCAPTCHA receives the spam check when you use the contact form. There is no advertising network, no payment processor and no email marketing on this site.

How long we keep things, and your rights

Because there are no accounts, there is almost nothing to keep. Contact-form messages are deleted once they are dealt with. Visitor statistics are held by Google and Automattic under their own retention policies and are not tied to your name.

If you have sent us a message and want it deleted, ask us on the contact page and we will delete it.

Anything you record in the reeDminder app is on your device and only you can delete it — we have no copy and no way to reach it.

Intellectual Property

Ideas related to the reeDminder app or website features, or other related services or offerings that are shared through this website or on our social media are necessarily the intellectual property of Chris Ostmo and APP(ideas) and you agree that your future legal and monetary rights are relinquished without a prior, signed non-disclosure or non-compete agreement. Basically, don’t give me ideas for an app unless you’re giving me ideas for an app.
